In 2008 the Medicus Clinic, in Pristina, Kosovo, was involved in a transnational criminal network specialized in the traffic of organs, mainly kidneys. The alleged leader of the structure was Dr. Lufti Dervishi, the director of Medicus Clinic, who established ties with brokers and doctors in Turkey. Approximately 30 organ suppliers were recruited by the criminal structure in countries such as Moldova, Russia, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan. The recipients came mostly from Israel, Turkey, Poland, Canada and Germany.
